IN PHOTO: Salt Making, San Lorenzo, Guimaras (Registered Property, Province of Guimaras)
Making salt takes precedence during the hot summer months. San Lorenzo's Barangays Suclaran, M. Chavez, and Sebario, Guimaras operate salt farms. The usual salt drying beds in these locations, which use evaporation to produce crystal white salt, are also well-liked tourist attractions. Some claim that the dry season, which lasts from February to May, offers the best opportunity to see the scenery.
Further, salt is intentionally mass-produced in San Lorenzo to be used as a preservative for processed food, in ice plants, ice cream factories, bottling plants as an ingredient in soft drinks, in bakeries, as coconut fertilizer, and for export. The amount of salt available is more than enough for household consumption.
