The Punnuk is a type of tug-of-war played by residents of three different settlements in the barangay of Hapao, located in the town of Hungduan in the province of Ifugao. The Hapao River serves as the venue for the multi-round tournament. It is the last step of the huowah, a series of ceremonial rites carried out after the harvest is finished. The agricultural cycle is legally brought to an end by the enactment of the punnuk, which also heralds the beginning of a new cycle after it has been completely carried out.
