TRAINING ON RA 10066 AND THE DOCUMENTATION OF CULTURAL PROPERTIES FOR NAYONG PILIPINO FOUNDATION
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), through the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property (PRECUP) Office, held its two-day training on RA. 10066 and the Documentation of Cultural Properties from January 18-19, 2023 for the Nayong Pilipino Foundation (NPF) at the Intramuros Visitor’s Center Theater, Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Manila.
True to its mandate under the RA 10066 known as the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009, the NCCA established and maintained a registry of all the country’s cultural properties deemed important to cultural heritage, officially PRECUP, with the cultural inventories of local government units (LGUs) and relevant cultural agencies, such as the NPF. PRECUP is currently accessible to the public through its portal at precup.ncca.gov.ph.
The two-day training commenced with Welcoming Remarks from both the Executive Directors of NCCA and NPF, Mr. Oscar G. Casaysay and Mrs. Gertrudes Duran-Batocabe, respectively. In her Opening Remarks, Mrs. Duran-Batocabe stressed the importance of teamwork within and among cultural workers, albeit among different cultural agencies.
During the training, the PRECUP Office introduced the RA 10066 and its mandate under the law, including its documentation processes of Intangible, Tangible Movable and Immovable Cultural Heritage. A simulation of PRECUP Form 2 was likewise held to demonstrate how movable cultural properties, such as those housed by the NPF’s own museum, are documented under PRECUP.
On the second day, the PRECUP Office discussed Object Identification (Object ID), an internationally recognized documentation standard established to identify and record cultural properties, with a demonstration of the proper handling of cultural properties and the necessary tools needed for documentation.

A workshop then took place where participants from NPF were guided in documenting some of their own movable cultural properties, followed by a plenary discussion of their output, and ended with a deliberation of ways moving forward.
Again, we thank the Nayong Pilipino Foundation for promoting and protecting our cultural heritage with us!
